UFC Rio Rancho gets LHW Main Event: Anderson vs Blachowicz 2
UFCs return to New Mexico at Santa Ana Star Center in suburb of Rio Rancho is beginning to fill out. As we previously reported the announcements of Ray Borg vs Rogério Bontorin and Montana de la Rosa vs Mara Romero Borella, the card now has it’s main event. It will feature the rematch between light heavyweight contenders Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz who previously met at UFC 191 in 2015. Anderson would go onto a claim a Unanimous Decision (30-25, 30-25, 29-26) victory over Blachowicz in their first meeting.
This main event will surely be a number one contender eliminator match up, with the winner likely getting the next title shot at the winner of Jon Jones vs Dominique Reyes which will be contested in Houston on Feb 8. If Reyes does find victory of Jones, it is likely that a rematch will occur between the two, which could push back any potential title shout for the winner of this Rio Rancho main event.
Other interesting developments are coming together to continue to make this a sneaky sleeper card in New Mexico. Area native Deigo Sanchez has apparently resigned with UFC after a period of free agency that included some speculation of a future in World Lethwei Championship, as he has been announced to face brazilian Michel Pereira in a welterweight match up.
Other exciting match ups announced is a woman’s bantamweight bout between Macy Chiasson and Nicco Montano and a light heavy weight bout between Devin Clark and Gadzimhurad Antigulov. There are still more exciting bouts to be announced so stay tuned for further developments and be sure to grab your tickets on Dec 20.
