Bellator’s Patricky Pitbull draws Luiz Gustavo in LW GP semis at Rizin 20
Patricky Pitbull (22-8) is Bellator’s representative in the Rizin Lightweight Gran Prix and has advanced to the semi-finals in masterful fashion with a first round TKO/KO over Tatsuya Kawjiri (37-14). It was the fifth knockout of the evening that eventually saw 11 finishes in 13 fights. Pitbull will face fellow Brasilian Luiz Gustavo in the next round.
Patricky Pitbull put a picturesque jumping knee on display that lead to a quick finish over Tatsuya Kawajiri. Kawajiri would cling to the leg of Pitbull after the momentum altering knee left him unable to defend himself from the finishing strikes. With a statement finish the Bellator representative now finds himself advancing in Rizin Lightweight Gran Prix. Tofiq Musaev, Luiz Gustavo and Johnny Case also delivered emphatic first round finishes to advance to the semi-finals.
Rizin held the draw for the semi-final rounds following Johnny Case’s walk off KO of Roberto de Souza. All four fighters returned to the ring and each was handed an envelope holding a numbered card which paired the four remaining fighters off. Fate chose Brasilian vs Brasilian as Bellator’s Pitbull would draw Luiz Gustavo.
And they weren’t afraid to show their enthusiasm for the match up when Johnny Case and Tofiq Musaev faced off in the ring. The stage is now set for the semi-final and final rounds at Rizin 20 on New Year’s Eve in Japan.
