Zabit vs Kattar moves from Boston to Moscow
Due to undisclosed reasons Zabit Magomedsharipov has been forced to pull out of his Co-Main Event fight with Calvin Kattar on October 18 in Boston, MA. The bout has been rescheduled for November 9 in Moscow, Russia.
New England native Calvin Kattar made it a priority to use his surging momentum to ensure his place on his homecoming card. It didn’t matter who the opponent was, he had to be on the big show with home field advantage. Boston loves their winners and a victory at TD Garden would be a highlight in his career. Some may have negotiated their way towards a more manageable opponent, but Kattar was more than willing to jump out of the pan and into the fire with a top prospect in Zabit. The man is just oozing confidence taking on the division’s most hyped prospect in front of his home crowd.
It was his sense of urgency to be a part of the pay-per-view Boston card that actually afforded him the opportunity to book an opponent like Zabit that would allow him to break into not only the Top 5 rankings but the mainstream narrative of the Featherweight division. And it was in this sequence that his priorities shifted. Despite how attractive it is to fight for the home crowd, it certainly paled in comparison to retaining his shot at a Top 5 Ranking.
The match up became more important, so much so in fact that Kattar agreed to move the bout to Russia, even with Zabit apparently responsible for the location change. So overwhelmingly confident in his abilities, Kattar himself offers to return the favor and trade places with Zabit by walking into enemy territory. It’s a unique and compelling circumstance that only helps sell the fight and brings some welcomed star power to a somewhat thin Moscow card. Depending on the nature of the result, there could be an interesting storyline there for a rematch in America.
Camp will last just a little bit longer until UFC on ESPN+ 21 in Moscow, Russia. The match up will likely be Co-Main again, supporting a Heavyweight Main Event bout between Junior Dos Santos and Alexander Volkov.
