Nigerian prospect Yusuff cruises to first round KO over veteran Martinez

A product of Dana White’s Contender Series, Nigerian born Featherweight contender Sodiq Yusuff (9-1) is an undefeated 3-0 since earning his UFC contract. He faces off against Mexican veteran Gabriel Martinez (21-6) who is building on a 2 fight win streak in UFC. ‘Moggly’ Martinez is 5-2 in his UFC campaign and will look to gain the edge with his experience advantage over the emerging prospect. Hearb Dean is the official for this 145lbs contest.

Yusuff cuts Benitez early with a power left. Benitez remains on the back foot as Yusuff continues to walk him down. Both fighters trade inside leg kicks as they share opposite stances. Benitez lands a solid left and drops Yusuff but is unable to find the finish. Yusuff rallies back with his own counters.

Neither is deterred as the exchange strikes and both working with cuts above the eye. The war of attrition ends abruptly as Yusuff tags Benitez with a picture perfect counter right and drops him. Holding on the ankle, Yusuff commits to the ground and pound until Herb Dean flies in for the first round stoppage. In a technical and entertaining fight that could have gone either way, Yussuf rallies through early adversity for the TKO victory.
